Toffee apples are a great idea for the local school fete or your kids birthday party.
Prep time: 5 minutesIngredients:
8 smaller red apples
1 1/2 cups of caster sugar
1 tablespoon of vinegar
1/2 cup water
6 drops of red food colouring
8 lollypop sticks (or use chop sticks cut in half)
Directions:
1. Wash apples and dry throughly. Remove any stalk and push stick into the centre of each apple.
2. In a heavy-based saucepan place the sugar, water and vinegar and heat gently for 5 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved.
3. Turn up the heat and boil vigorously for approximately 8 minutes until the toffee just starts to turn golden. Test to see if the toffee is going to set (every minute after 6 minutes) by getting a small amount on a teaspoon and dribbling into a glass of cold water. When the threads are hard, it's ready.
4. Remove from heat and add food colouring. Dip in the apples into the toffee and twirl each apple to make sure it is well coated and the excess drips off. Place the toffee apple on grease proof paper to cool. Note this step is not good for young children as the hot toffee mixture can be very dangerous.

hey this worked really well! we are having a market thing @ our school this is perfect!
i enjoyed trying this recipe it's my first time making toffee apples and i thought they turned out great for the first time ever trying.the kids loved them too.i would definately use this recipe again!
Great recipie. I used tin foil to rest the apples on, waited till they had cooled complety then I pealed them off easily.
It was HORRIBLE! the only reason i gave it a 10 was so that i could get my post up. Toffee turned out burned, pretty much impossible to clean utensils used. Do not use this recipe as it is Uselless.
It works really well but if you want them really red add more food colouring
hey thanks for the recipe im only 13 but today we had toffee apples for sale at school and i really wanted to try to make some for myself and it works pefectly the only thing i didnt have was food colouring so i put in vanilla essence it takes away the smell of vinegar and it smells and tastes GREAT thanks
xx
WOW I CANT WAIT TO TRY IT
YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
These were awesome! Karen, an easy way to stop these from sticking is to use that spray nonstick stuff they have everywhere. Just put a bit on the paper or straight on the tray. Mine came off like a dream. I didn't even have to scrub a thing! hope this helps.
Great toffee apple recipe. Its sounds simple to make and i cant wait to make it tomorrow for my school stall. Thanks a bunch and it sounds very sweet too,
fantastic, just made them for my kids for halloween and they look and taste amazing, I used braeburn apples, nice and firm and not too sweet to compliment the sweetness of the toffee.
I didn't realise how easy it was to make toffee apples and this recipe was superb!
I really really like it.
great recipe toffee apples come out great..love them..thanks a bunch!!! :-)
Great recipe, my 8 year old son and I have made these three times now, and they are so yummy - toffee comes out perfectly. Only thing is - I cannot figure out the trick to stop them sticking to the surface I put them on. Greaseproof paper was hopeless, the paper stuck to the toffee, any ideas anyone? Also mine went all sticky the next day - is there a trick to this?
Worked out well.
I added a essence flavour to the toffee just for something extra :)
