  • Auckland Has Everything
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1309905295
0Poor Auckland: they’ve been missing out. None of Wellington’s fierce winds; no Central Otago frosts; and it no Christchurch’s earthquakes -- well, that’s not entirely true. The very weekend I spend in Auckland a 2.9 earthquake gently rattles over its sub-tropical suburbs. It’s a talking point at the French markets in Parnell the next morning.

  • Slowing down in snow-less Queenstown
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1308717702
0This has been the most unusual winter for Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world. We’re past the shortest day of the year and still no snow for skiing on Coronet Peak, Cardrona or the Remarkables. Queenstown was ranked among the top 25 destinations in the world on Trip Advisor, with skiing clearly being a big part of the attraction. But as a non-skier, it didn’t worry me a jot spending a few days relaxing in a Queenstown without snow! The bustling alpine resort was last year named No. 1 Outdoor and Adventure Destination in the World by Trip Advisor.

New Zealand and Christchurch tourism have been savaged by a series of earthquakes since September 4 but the accolades just announced by Trip Advisor for Akaroa are a huge boost to the battered region.

  • Cloud 9: One Step Away From Heaven
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1306372498
0I could hear the waves below washing over the golden sands along Long Beach, massaging my mind and soul. This was heaven in northern sub-tropical New Zealand. It’s a warm night; the French doors at my $1750 a night Cloud 9 luxury hideaway are wide open. The moonlight dances across the Pacific Ocean in the bay.

  • Unique NZ Food Experience - the main actor
    Submitted by hartmindfood on 1304551321
0Ask most New Zealanders to describe New Zealand cuisine and we struggle for an answer or that we don’t have one - that New Zealand is too young, too multi-cultural, or too British ... Yet when asked to describe a New Zealand food experience we easily share common stories that all celebrate our own history and fabric of life. The tastes and smells directly linking us to memories that connect with our own land and culture. For me, this is the basis of Gastro-tourism – making a direct link - a cultural shortcut - to the land through its food.
