  • Auckland Has Everything
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1309905295
0Poor Auckland: they’ve been missing out. None of Wellington’s fierce winds; no Central Otago frosts; and it no Christchurch’s earthquakes -- well, that’s not entirely true. The very weekend I spend in Auckland a 2.9 earthquake gently rattles over its sub-tropical suburbs. It’s a talking point at the French markets in Parnell the next morning.

  • Cloud 9: One Step Away From Heaven
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1306372498
0I could hear the waves below washing over the golden sands along Long Beach, massaging my mind and soul. This was heaven in northern sub-tropical New Zealand. It’s a warm night; the French doors at my $1750 a night Cloud 9 luxury hideaway are wide open. The moonlight dances across the Pacific Ocean in the bay.

  • Hanmer Springs
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1335930028
0Hanmer Springs - Shut your eyes. Imagine lazing in a steamy private hot pool with someone special at New Zealand’s top thermal pool resort – Hanmer Springs. The sun is setting over the picture postcard snow-capped mountains. Not a sound can be heard but the occasional bellbird call. It feels so romantic. But there are more these days to Hanmer than just the busiest hot pools in New Zealand.

  • Hokitika’s Mahinapua Walk – A Step Away From Heaven
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1296935449
0We wobbled back to our Kapitea Ridge Lodge on the hilltop north of Hokitika, plonked ourselves down on the upper deck and didn’t move. Seriously.

  • Hope Villa Aptly Named as a Romantic Haven After Earthquake
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1301567252
0This was the most relaxing, cathartic and re-energising but surreal holiday ever, after a devastating earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. We are shading ourselves from the scorching sun under the terracotta tile-roof summer house at a stunning plush luxury lodge - Hope Villa - 20 minutes south east of Christchurch international airport.

  • My Top 10 Unforgettable Places to Stay in Queenstown & Wanaka This Winter
    Submitted by holidayLOVER on 1271993318
1It's coming to that time of the year when I organise our family annual ski holiday in New Zealand. We are huge fans of the stunning Queenstown-Wanaka region. If my budget was unlimited where would I stay? My key factors are location (scenic, close to ski fields, shopping etc) and facilities (luxury rooms, restaurant with delicious cuisine, hot tub etc).

  • Oamaru – One of New Zealand’s Greatest Treasures and Hidden Secrets
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1286588039
0If you are not a surfer, sunbather, climber or boatie, Oamaru is possibly the best destinations in New Zealand. Standing on the cobbled corner of Harbour and Tyne Street, I am cast back 130 years in time among a wealth of historic architectural treasures. There is no evidence of anything other than Victorian architecture. I amble down the lane with its old rail line still running down the side, where trains picked up sacks or grain to be loaded on to bowsprits, spars and fully rigged triple-masters on Sumpter wharf in the harbour.

  • Oamaru – the most wonderfully anachronistic centre in New Zealand
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1317945141
0Oamaru is as wonderfully anachronistic as a 21st century tourist attraction as fax machines are to businesses. The sleepy North Otago settlement has possibly one of the best compact collections of Victorian architecture in the world. It’s like going back in time and the town itself is embracing the Victorian heritage theme with both hands.
