  • Why We Love Kaikoura
    Submitted by holidayLOVER on 1235883378
1Located on State Highway 1 just two and a half hours drive north from Christchurch is the town of Kaikoura. Kaikoura is a very small district, with a population of just over 3600*, yet it attracts almost a million tourists annually. The wildlife is phenomenal and the scenery is breathtaking. Most people come to see the wildlife (namely; whales, birdlife, dolphins and seals), surf on the waves, or scuba dive below, and of course eat crayfish. My mother now lives in Kaikoura, so my husband and I visit about once a month. What follows below is a few of the things we love about Kaikoura.

  • Simple Steps to Improve Your Backpacker / Hostel Business
    Submitted by holidayLOVER on 1221798195
1Running a successful backpacker hostel is a fun and rewarding business. People attracted to running their own hostel normally are outgoing, social people with large personalities and smiles. Some people set up a hostel after being backpackers themselves. So what makes some hostels more financially successful than others? The key is to attract as many guests as possible and get guests to stay at your accommodation longer.

  • Unique NZ Food Experience - the main actor
    Submitted by hartmindfood on 1304551321
0Ask most New Zealanders to describe New Zealand cuisine and we struggle for an answer or that we don’t have one - that New Zealand is too young, too multi-cultural, or too British ... Yet when asked to describe a New Zealand food experience we easily share common stories that all celebrate our own history and fabric of life. The tastes and smells directly linking us to memories that connect with our own land and culture. For me, this is the basis of Gastro-tourism – making a direct link - a cultural shortcut - to the land through its food.

  • Hanmer Springs
    Submitted by wordofmouth on 1335930028
0Hanmer Springs - Shut your eyes. Imagine lazing in a steamy private hot pool with someone special at New Zealand’s top thermal pool resort – Hanmer Springs. The sun is setting over the picture postcard snow-capped mountains. Not a sound can be heard but the occasional bellbird call. It feels so romantic. But there are more these days to Hanmer than just the busiest hot pools in New Zealand.

  • Bird Watching in New Zealand
    Submitted by holidayLOVER on 1216338987
1New Zealand was a land of birds before humans arrived on our shores between 800 and 1200 AD. The only mammals found in New Zealand prior to the arrival of Maori were two species of native bats and those that could swim here, for example seals and sea lions. Due to the lack of predators and the relative isolation of the birds in New Zealand, many endemic birds are quite unique.

  • What's Gastro-tourism about?
    Submitted by hartmindfood on 1277787793
0Gastro-tourism is a word that many of us hear nowadays, but not too many are aware of what it is. I offer a great definition, written by Prof. Barbara Santich of Uni.Adelaide, - that makes a lot of sense to me- as someone studying gastro-tourism in New Zealand, and I hope to you as well.

1The fantastic artistic nature of the Nelson/Tasman region is truly reflected in the Nelson Market held every Saturday in the Montgomery Square right in the heart of Nelson. Visitors and locals alike flock to this market each weekend and it is arguably the most supreme market in New Zealand with over a hundred stalls offering up the best the region has to offer.
