  The Sonic is a funky restaurant in a great Kaikoura location. The outside area is superb, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the mountains. The waitress told us how occasionally the whales can be seen from this spot!! I really like the look of The Sonic and have given it a 9 out of 10 for ambience as there was some really great blues music playing while we had our lunch yesterday. Also the service was fantastic. We ordered 2 Kaikoura Lagers to drink while we had a look over the reasonably priced menu. Kaikoura Lager is a surprisingly good beer! For lunch my partner had the "Carnivorous Gourmet Pizza" while I went for the "Steamed Marlborough Mussels". Both were good.
  I would recommend you visit The Sonic Restaurant while in Kaikoura.
