The Mountain House is a unique and delightful place to base your Arthur's Pass vacation. The national park at your doorstep provides numerous day walk and tramping opportunities. In winter take your choice of five local ski fields. Visit alpine meadows with their wild flower displays and rare native birds. Have an adventure in local caves, canyons, or climb to stunning mountain tops and glaciers.

The cottages are located away from the main road set in extensive gardens which include many native alpine plants. There are three bedrooms in each cottage with one to three beds in each room. Each cottage has a log fire, which gives it a cosy alpine feel on cool winter evenings, a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom facilities, and is decorated and furnished with your comfort in mind. Bed linen, duvets, and towels are provided at no extra charge. A coin operated laundry, gas BBQ area and free gear storage is available to guests.

Two options exist for staying at the cottages. Your first option, and by far the most common, is to reserve just one of the bedrooms for one to three persons and share the rest of the house with others on a backpacker basis.

The second option is to reserve the entire cottage for yourself. This is ideal for small groups and families. Some special conditions might apply depending on the time of your booking.

Our lodge is located in the heart of the Arthur's Pass Village. It is close to public transport and cafes. The lodge has five "share rooms" (each with up to four beds with bedding provided) and a eight bed dormitory (you must provide your own bedding). Our comfortable lounge is warm and sunny, opening out onto a deck with excellent views of the surrounding mountains. The new kitchen and dining area is large and well equipped. Coin operated laundry and Internet plus free gear storage is available to guests.

  Superb location that the accommodation and staff of the backpackers lived up to!
  I would recommend this backpackers to all and I will be returning to use it again.
