Situated in Hamilton, New Zealand, overlooking the beautiful Waikato River, the Waikato Museum has eight galleries that show touring exhibitions, as well as exhibitions featuring items from our own collection. These include the majestic 200 year old carved waka taua - Te Winika, artwork by prominent New Zealand and regional artists and an interactive science experience. A regular programme of activities is available to further enhance your visit, as well as the popular Museum Cafe and the new Museum Shop at ArtsPost.

We have developed an inspirational programme for you that seeks to both challenge and inspire. Our exhibitions and activities bring you the stories of our arts, history, culture and science. There is something for everyone with the exciting range of activities and programmes on offer.

ArtsPost is Hamilton's community art centre, situated next door to the main museum complex. It provides three galleries of regularly changing exhibitions featuring outstanding work by local artists. This artwork is available for sale through the Museum Shop located on the premises.

    We went midmorning on a Saturday and it was very quiet. The dinosaur exhit was fabulous - lots to see and do - interactive activities that the kids enjoyed. We were there for over 2 hours and could have been there longer if time had permitted. It's a great family activity.
