Join the professional team at Sledgeabout for a Rotorua adventure you’ll never forget. Experience the thrill as you surf down a grade 3 river on a sledge!

Customers will receive a door-to-door Sledging (Hydro speeding) experience on the Lower part of the Upper Kaituna River. The river is lake fed and therefore reasonably warm (unlike snow-melt rivers) and is an extremely deep gorge meaning that there are very few rocks to negotiate.

Sledgeabout pick you up from Rotorua accommodation and drive you to their private river base where customers are outfitted in quality equipment and receive comprehensive safety instruction. Once on the water, all safety is repeated before beginning the 1 to 1.5-hour, at one with the environment, experience. Sledgers are in control of their own purpose-built sledge; manoeuvred by flippers on their feet. Because there is two sections of river available, the trips are tailored to the ability of a group. All customers view a slideshow of their experience before being returned home.

Please note that you must be a confident swimmer and have a good fitness level to enjoy this activity.

Sledgeabout operate 365 days a year, wet or fine and cater for: School Groups/Camps, Social Groups/Clubs, Corporate Groups, Team Building & Group Initiative.

  What an adventure! We did the Raft & Sledge option ($175 at the time) when we were last in Rotorua and I'm so glad we did. I talked my wife into it, she was very reluctant and nervous, but she loved it! Had such an awesome time. Our guide was excellent (sorry mate I forget your name). The 7m waterfall was an adrenaline blast in the raft! The scenery was nice, although we were having way too much fun to notice most of it. We did the rafting first then the lower part of the river on the sledge second. I think the sledging was my favourite but both were excellent. Make sure you check out Raftabout if you're in Rotorua as it could be one of the best things you do on your holiday! Certainly one of the most memorable.
