Immerse yourself in New Zealand’s rich maritime heritage with a visit to the New Zealand National Maritime Museum. Journey through our exhibition galleries showcasing the discovery and exploration by our country’s maritime pioneers; set sail on the sparkling Waitemata Harbour aboard our heritage vessel fleet; or get involved in one of our many more events and activities.

The National Maritime Museum is New Zealand's foremost collection of maritime artefacts, celebrating our country’s rich maritime heritage and strong bond with the ocean. Displays recognising the very first expeditions to New Zealand by Polynesian peoples, through to modern commercial shipping, acknowledge and pay tribute to the pioneering spirit of the people who have helped to forge our national identity.

The Maritime Museum is open everyday except Christmas Day, from 9:00am - 5:00pm.

We recommend allowing 1-3 hours to complete your museum visit – sailing times additional.
